In today’s competitive market, finding skilled software developers who are ready to make an immediate impact is a challenge. Our Software Development Apprenticeship Program is designed to bridge this gap by providing businesses with exceptional talent, rigorously trained and industry-ready.

KCP provides our clients with the means to appoint work ready software talent, to invest in youth development and to meet empowerment and procurement targets. KCP uniquely provides a service combining gradate sourcing with high quality training and preparation for the workforce.

We receive nearly 1,000 applications annually from aspiring developers eager to join our program. From this pool, we meticulously select only the top candidates through a multi-stage process. Our assessments and interviews are designed to evaluate technical acumen, problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in dynamic environments. Only the best make it through, ensuring you have access to top-tier talent.

2. Comprehensive Training
Our program isn’t just about learning to code. It’s about mastering the full stack of software development. Candidates undergo intensive, elite bootcamps that cover industry techniques and best practices. But it doesn’t stop there—each apprentice gains hands-on experience by working on real commercial projects, solving actual business challenges. Additionally, they engage in a synthetic full stack application project, giving them a 360-degree view of development processes. We induct candidates, conduct probations, and review progress throughout the apprenticeship program to ensure performance meets industry standards.

When our apprentices complete the program, they’re more than just graduates—they’re developers ready to hit the ground running. Our alumni have gone on to join leading companies like AWS, LexisNexis, and SA Home Loans, contributing to critical projects from day one. The demand for our graduates is high because they are trained to think critically, work collaboratively, and deliver solutions that meet business needs.

Whether it’s customizing the curriculum to align with your tech stack or offering specific project experiences, we work with you to ensure that our graduates are perfectly suited to join your team.

PROGRAM SUMMARY

Our apprentice program is based on experience-based learning – i.e. practical learning interspersed with hands on coaching and experience with software professionals.

Apprentices complete up to 120 days of bootcamps covering all skill areas within the software profession (Test, Coding, Automated testing, Professional skills, Business Analysis, Agile, Devops, and Secops).

We hire apprentices on a 12 month fixed contract from January to December. We then coach and supply that apprentice to one of your software teams to be given commercial experience.
​If you like the apprentice you can hire them permanently at the end of the program, or you can continue to contract them via KCP if you don’t have approved Full Time Employee (FTE) positions.

Apprentices join commercial software project teams during the program to start applying their skills and Apprentices conduct a 6 month full software stack application project (a synthetic project that practices all skills) after they have completed bootcamp. Apprentices are coached and assessed throughout the program.

​Our Apprenticeship Program is designed to suit an organisation wanting to augment their software delivery teams with skilled people who are able to add value from inception.

Our program consists of 
  • Extensive marketing of the program, attracting approximately 1,000 applications.
  • A rigorous 6 step recruitment process that short lists the most promising and
    ​appropriate candidate apprentices.
  • A professional HR contracting process.
  • Supply of office space, equipment, software, and internet connectivity.
  • An in depth Induction and onboarding process.
  • A 3 month probation/performance process to set standards and expectations early.
  • An extensive bootcamp structure.
  • An experience driven learning curriculum (awaiting SAQA accreditation)
  • A full stack synthetic application project experience.
  • 9 months of hands on commercial project experience.
  • Ongoing staff management and regular 1:1’s.
  • Formal performance review and Formative assessment processes.
  • Final Summative assessment and graduation process.

OUR BOOTCAMPS

The first 90 - 120 days of the apprenticeship program is focused on bootcamps providing core commercial skills and setting expectations of what we require. Most of these bootcamps are conducted in parallel with being onboarded onto a software project team allowing the apprentice to apply what they are learning.
